December 17th 2005 - Mother Raspberry expresses our deepest sorrow for our dearest friend and collaborater James Franco, who left this world on Saturday morning after suffering injuries recieved in a car accident late last week.

Early in 2001, James had an undeniable influence on Timberdoodle, the band that featured Mother Raspberry members Tom Light, Justin Elder, Matt Schuh, and Ben Dickmann. James contributed the vocals for an infamous version of "Beans" which was recorded in the basement of the Agawam High School.

However, the most memorable performance James had with Timberdoodle occured on April 5th, 2002 when the band played at St. Mary High School in Westfield, Massachusetts. As Timberdoodle progressed through their set, James was seated on a stool on stage in plain sight as he tore pages out of a notebook which contained the set lists for the other bands performing that night. The chaos did not end there. After the third song, the members of Timberdoodle broke into a whallopping jam medley of carnage as drummer Shane Suffriti dismantled his drum set while desecrating the American flag, Matt Schuh threw cinnamon toast crunch at the audience, Tom Light square danced with Ben Dickmann to Josh Martel's banjo picking, and Nate Skiba and Justin Elder wailed at their guitars. As the audience watched in horror at what was happening, James lept off the stool and split his kneecap on a radiator hidden behind the stage curtain. As James limped with the band off stage, Timberdoodle was indefinately barred from ever playing a show there ever again as they simultaneously went into the history books.

Timberdoodle disbanded in the summer of 2002 as Tom Light and Matt Schuh formed Mother Raspberry with Ben Dickmann, Steve Nascimbeni, and Justin Elder. Ex-Timberdoodle drummer Shane Suffriti remained a great friend to Mother Raspberry as did James Franco. In 2004, James Franco and Shane Suffriti formed Twin Effect and plans for the release of their debut LP is set for early January 2006.

Our prayers are extended to James and his family during this difficult time. The version of "Beans" with James on vocals will be uploaded shortly onto this website.
